Principal Modular Building

Halesowen College is a further and higher education college in the heart of the West Midlands with around 3,700 students. It has a reputation for high standards, an excellent learning environment and a caring, supportive sense of community.

With an impending refurbishment programme to it’s teaching blocks there was a need for temporary accommodation to mitigate any disturbances and shortage of classrooms that would arise. The supply for the temporary accommodation was put out to competitive tender and Pickerings was the winning bidder. The building design was for 15 modules as part single storey and part two storey to maximise ground footprint and preserve car parking space whilst providing the necessary number of classrooms.

As the refurbishment programme was quickly progressing at the college there was an urgent need for delivery and installation of the temporary accommodation. Upon being awarded the contract Pickerings quickly set about completing the groundwork. The site has a gradual slope in two different directions and Pickerings met this challenge with precision engineering to create foundations on which the building would be installed.

Whilst groundwork was underway at Halesowen Pickerings were preparing the building modules at their local hire depot in Birmingham. The building modules were safely installed on site within 2 days. After internal fit-out the finished building was handed over to the college shortly afterwards meeting the strict deadline for occupation.

The finished building from our Principal range conforms to current building regulations with four separate classrooms at ground level and two more separate classrooms with an entrance lobby to the first floor.

A steel staircase was installed to provide access to the first floor classrooms.
