Modern Slavery Statement
Pickerings Hire Limited t/a Pickerings is committed to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking in all its forms. We are dedicated to conducting our business ethically, responsibly and with integrity and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery does not take place within our business or supply chains.
This statement relates to actions and activities during the financial year 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025 and outlines the further steps we will continue to take to strengthen our approach over the next 12 months.
Our Structure and Supply Chains
Pickerings is a privately owned supplier of relocatable modular buildings and portable cabins, including commercial offices, school classrooms, welfare facilities, secure storage, generators and related products and services. We operate from a network of depots throughout the UK, with our Head Office based in the East Midlands.
Our supply chain includes manufacturers and suppliers of modular and portable building internal and external structures, plumbing and electrical components, paint and other consumables. We also engage sub-contracted service providers to assist with delivery, installation, dismantling and collection of buildings, along with associated site remedial works.
Modern Slavery Risk Areas
As is common within our industry, we recognise that there is an increased risk of exposure to modern slavery and human trafficking within certain areas of our supply chain, particularly in relation to:
- agency and temporary labour;
- sub-contractors;
- material suppliers.
Despite this, we continually review and assess our supply chain and currently consider the overall risk to be low.
We also consider the risk of modern slavery within our own operations to be low due to robust internal controls, policies and procedures, including stringent recruitment and employment practices.
Policies and Controls
Pickerings maintains a Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy, which reinforces our commitment to preventing modern slavery within our business and supply chains. The policy outlines:
- our zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery;
- the steps to be taken should modern slavery be identified or suspected;
- guidance for employees on recognising and reporting concerns.
Recruitment and Employment Practices
We are committed to ensuring that all employment is freely chosen. To support this, we continue to maintain robust recruitment and onboarding procedures, including:
- verifying the right to work in the UK for all employees;
- confirming that employees are paid directly into their own personal bank accounts;
- conducting appropriate pre-employment checks to reduce the risk of forced or exploitative labour.
Speaking Up and Reporting Concerns
We recognise the importance of employees and workers feeling safe and supported when raising concerns. We will continue to reinforce our confidential reporting mechanisms, ensuring that employees can speak up freely and without fear of retaliation if they suspect modern slavery, human trafficking or unethical practices.
Further steps
During the next 12 months, Pickerings will:
- Conduct at least one formal review of the Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy.
- Ensure any necessary updates are implemented within one month of review.
- Communicate modern slavery expectations to 100% of suppliers, contractors, and sub-contractors.
- Track and confirm acknowledgement of compliance standards from all key supply chain partners.
- Perform quarterly reviews of supply chain risks related to modern slavery.
- Document and address identified high-risk areas within 30 days of detection.
- Deliver modern slavery awareness and prevention training to all relevant staff at least once during the 12-month period.
- Achieve 90% completion rate for targeted staff participation in training programs.
This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes Pickerings Hire Limited’s Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement for the financial year ending 30 June 2025.
