Government fuel changes coming into force 1st April 2022

As part of the governments plans to meet their goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, from the 1st April 2022, rebate fuels will no longer be legal to use in most sectors which includes the construction industry.

To ensure a smooth transition for our customers, Pickerings have outlined the changes below:

From now

Any red diesel supplied prior to the 31st of March will be invoiced by this date. Moving forward all fuels will be billed in advance rather than at off hire.

From 20th March onwards

We will be reducing our stock of red diesel in line with government guidance. Generators hired after this date may contain either white or red diesel dependant on location. We will inform you prior to the hire commencing as to which type of fuel will be supplied.

From 1st April 2022 onwards

It will be illegal to use red diesel in equipment working in the construction sector. In doing so sites risk huge fines from HMRC and can risk their equipment being impounded. If this happens customers should inform Pickerings immediately. The customer will continue to pay hire charges until the generator is returned to a Pickerings depot. Any fees incurred by Pickerings to recover the generator will be chargeable to the customer (along with disposal of any red fuel/litre and appropriate refill costs).

Our generators must be filled with the 'white fuels' only - white HVO or white diesel.

Any red diesel which is left in generators when it is returned, will be disposed of by Pickerings, and, the disposal costs per litre will be chargeable. To avoid these charges, we encourage customers to return generators practically empty of red diesel. Cross hired generators supplied by Pickerings may be subject to different terms and conditions. We will inform you of these at the point of hire.

If you have any queries about the above, please contact your local depot.
