Pickerings modular building for healthcare

The COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).

To help fight the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic the Department of Healthcare and Social Care needed to quickly establish a nationwide network of drive-through and walk-through test sites for people with coronavirus symptoms.

The process for identifying suppliers and submission of tenders in the LTS Project (Local Testing Sites) was administered by the Crown Commercial Service under Modular Buildings Framework (ref RM6014.)

As an existing supplier to the Crown Commercial Service Pickerings submitted a successful bid for the LTS Project and was awarded contracts on sites nationwide.

The Department of Health and Social Care needed to hire a testing site at Durham in the North-East of England to be operational for 7 days a week. It was scheduled to be on hire for a minimum of 26 weeks.

At the Durham site Pickerings hired an Integrum modular building as an 8-bay testing solution. Pickerings also provided portable toilets; Anti-vandal portable cabins as temporary offices and canteens; Anti-vandal portable gatehouse. The LTS Project saw a need for fully functioning, well equipped buildings which enabled many products and services from the Pickerings+ range to be provided in conjunction with modular and portable buildings.

Additional equipment hired by the Department of Health and Social Care from the Pickerings+ range included a marquee shelter to protect people from rain while waiting for testing; temporary perimeter fencing; generators to produce power; water bowser; fuel bowser; hard furnishings that needed to have been sterlised before use; ramps and steps to comply with DDA (Disability Discrimination Act.)

All products and services were delivered and installed in Durham to a strict timescale and become operational immediately.

Pickerings provided fully functioning modular and portable buildings on our site at Durham within a very strict timescale.
