Operations Training Manager - Head Office

We are currently recruiting for an Operations Training Manager to be based at our Head Office in Measham, Derbyshire. As an Operational Trainer, you will be responsible for and delivering Operational and Compliance training to ensure site colleagues have the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out their role. This will involve national travel within our depot network with nights away when required.


Reporting to: Fleet Director


The Role:

  • To manage training programmes that include web-based training, printed manuals, group sessions, training videos, practical sessions and more.
  • Determines training needs and requirements across the business by meeting with Senior Managers, General Managers and talking with employees.
  • Support the delivery of inductions at a site level for all new starters.
  • Support the delivery of/and/or deliver essential training and buddying in the first 12 weeks of “Newly qualified HGV drivers” to ensure new colleagues are equipped to succeed in and beyond their probationary period.
  • Reviews existing training materials produced by third parties to determine appropriateness and relevance.
  • Work with subject matter experts to maintain, update and develop standard operating procedures including working practice updates, coordinating and delivering refresher training.
  • Deliver training in specific areas of legal compliance, SOP’s, safe systems of work, H&S, Compliance, etc. in line with agreed standards.
  • Schedules training, organises information technology and other equipment, and manages course enrolment
  • Monitors training programmes and manuals to ensure that they are effective and up-to-date and makes updates as necessary.
  • Verify training previously carried out to ensure colleagues are carrying out their work activity in accordance with the systems and procedures in place.
  • Manages costs for all programmes, productions, and publications in order to report to organisation Executives regarding a return on investment.
  • Maintains understanding of new educational and training techniques and methods.
  • Maintain skills matrices and training records for all colleagues on site.
  • Quality Check, govern and validate training and competence standards of training suppliers to ensure compatibility.
  • Maintain skills matrixes and training records for all colleagues on site.
  • Monitor and review progress of learners through course feedback, observations and discussions with Line Managers.
  • Gain NVQ assessor Award and register and assess all relevant employees thereafter.
  • Develop extra revenue streams through the training department.


What we’re looking for:

  • An adaptable trainer who can respond to the needs of the site and deliver training within our operations environment
  • Demonstratable experience of delivering engaging and motivating learning and development sessions
  • PTLLS or Train the Trainer qualification
  • GCSE or equivalent in numeracy and literacy
  • A working knowledge of transport and yard operations.
  • Proficient in the use of computer systems such as Word, Excel, Email, Power point
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and targets
  • Training qualification preferable
  • Someone who is happy to train the team across a national network
  • Transport Managers CPC qualification is desirable
